Biography
Bhai Manbir Singh was first introduced to Gurbani Keertan early by his grandfather, Bhai Prem Singh, who enrolled him into the Gandharv Mahavidyalaya in Delhi, where he studied tabla.
After moving to Sydney at a young age, Bhai Manbir Singh started learning Keertan locally with Giani Gurdev Singh before coming under the tutelage of Bhai Harjit Singh Delhi (nephew and student of Bhai Santa Singh Ji).
His more rigorous Classical vocal training began with Ustaad Mazhar and Jawad Ali Khan (grandsons of Ustaad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan), who initiated him as a Ganda-Band Shagird of Kasoor Patiala Gharana. He also spent some time learning from Ustad Baldev S. Narang (Disciple of Pt. Kesar Chand, and Ustaad Salamat Ali Khan of Shaam Chaurasi Gharana).
Bhai Manbir Singh’s training in Shastriya Sangeet then continued under the tutelage of Pt. Shantanu Bhattacharyya (Disciple of Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty) with whom Manbir studied the finer nuances of Raag Sangeet.
Bhai Manbir Singh pursued further Taleem in Punjabi compositions and Rababi Keertan compositions from Ustad Sheikh Badar Uz Zaman (disciple of Bhai Naseera Rababi, Bhai Faiz Rababi and Chhote Gulam Ali Khan of Kasur).
He now splits his time across teaching locally in Sydney, teaching online through GSV, and touring worldwide sharing his passion for Gurbani Sangeet with others.
Fun fact, Bhai Manbir Singh also spent a few years as a Civil Engineer in Sydney, Australia.
